My bathroom used to be the one room I spent the least amount of time thinking about. It was functional, sure — clean, simple, basic. But that was it. Every morning, I rushed through my routine like it was a task to check off. Brush teeth, wash face, go. No pause. No calm. Just in and out.
Until one day, I caught myself sighing after closing the bathroom door — not because I was relaxed, but because I couldn’t wait to leave the room.
That’s when I decided it didn’t have to be that way. What if my bathroom wasn’t just a pit stop in my day, but a place that helped me slow down?
I didn’t rip anything out or paint the walls. I just started small.
First came a Walnut tray on the counter — a neat spot for my candle, facial oils, and a small vase of dried flowers. Then I added a sculptural soap dish and swapped my plastic containers for ceramic ones. Those tiny changes made my space feel less like a utility room and more like a sanctuary.
Next came scent. I placed a reed diffuser near the mirror with notes of eucalyptus and bergamot. The whole room started to smell like calm.
I hung a minimalist art print on the blank wall and added a soft, earth-toned bath mat underfoot. That changed everything. Suddenly the room felt warm, even with the cool tile and white walls. I started lighting a candle during evening showers — and instead of racing through my routine, I slowed down. Took my time. Exhaled.
My bathroom didn’t get bigger. It didn’t get fancier. But it became mine — a space that welcomed me into the day and helped me let go of it at night.
You don’t need to renovate to feel at peace in your own space. Sometimes it’s a tray, a scent, a single piece of art — just enough to remind you to pause.
